Jamie here, and today I’m going to talk about how to target the local area of service better on Facebook using Facebook ads.
Facebook is very good at doing one thing, which is spending money. But what it’s actually really bad at is servicing and targeting your local area.
See, your problem with Facebook is even if you set your local radius to be around 10 kilometers or even 15 kilometers around your business, you are not going to have that happening.
What happens is you’ll probably end up getting people outside that area by at least 10 to 15 kilometers easily.
Facebook’s geo-targeting targeting is really bad.
Here’s an example that happened to me recently. I had a client that works in the Sydney CBD, so obviously they wanted service the Sydney CBD.
But the funny thing is, they start to get leads out in Whoop Whoop, say, 20-30 KM’s away in Penrith for example.
You know, that doesn’t look good on me. And it doesn’t look good on the customer when you’re spending their money.
You’ve told them that you’re targeting the Sydney CBD, but next thing you know they’re getting all these leads out of the area.
My quick tip is because Facebook’s geo-location targeting is so shocking minimize it as much as you can.
For example, if you work in the Sydney CBD set your little radius targeting to be as small as possible. That should help tighten your targeting up even better.
Now the next thing you probably want to do is set exclusion locations.
So what do I mean by that?
Basically, you’ve just created locations you want to target, but you can also exclude locations you don’t want to target.
Firstly, we’ve got the area we’re servicing and we’ve basically halved and made it as small as possible.
But then you’re going to have exclude the area surrounding the borders of your service area, this should help you tighten it up as much as possible as to make sure you’re only showing ads to people in your area.
Look, it sounds complicated but we don’t want to be spending money we don’t have. If you can try to target as accurate to your area of service, it’s just going to make every dollar that we spend a lot more worth it.
That’s my quick tip for today. I really hope it helped you out.
